Leaving DeviantArt (with link)

Thu Apr 9, 2009, 12:53 PM
  • Mood: Optimism
Edit: here's my new blog address. i'll hopefully have stuff up soon! [link]

i've been mulling it around for a while, and i've decided that updating and checking my DA account has become really boring and tedious over the past year. i've been here since 2003, and six years is a long time to be on one website, especially one so full of bullshit that it's a real rarity that good artists get appreciated- and i don't mean myself, i mean ACTUALLY good artists. it's depressing to see people with talent and potential post here, hoping for genuine feedback and response, and get absolutely nothing. it's also pretty inconvenient for a person such as myself, who's moving away from finished artwork to animated shorts and sketches (not that my bullshit is ever really finished, but you know what i mean) and i have to be part of some exclusive "club" on DA just to post my animations.

i've only really made one or two "good" friends on DeviantArt, but there are plenty of really great people here who i'm proud to have met and collaborated with in the past. I hope that I can stay in touch with those people in the future, and i hope they know that they have been a tremendously good influence on my work the past six years. to the rest of the people who continued to this day, to watch me or favorite my shitty work from years ago just because it was fanart, i think you're the people that i wanna get away from the most. i mean it's flattering, but then again, it's not. this isn't directed at anyone in particular, especially since most likely those kind of people won't even bother reading this journal. READING?? WHAT'S THAT DURP

My closest friend for the past two years on this site has been :icontaeshilh: who has given me great advice, insight, and critique in the time that i've known her. she's also improved immensely since two years, but that should be credited to her great talent and strive. besties~

basically, i'm going to start a blog, which is where i'll post all my art and animations from now on. as for this account, i will probably find some way to compile all my old work and put it in a new place. even though it's embarrassing, i feel like my old shit is a good insight into my development as an artist, and it provides good laughs at how bad it is. so yea, i'll figure it out.

for now, my twitter is: [link]

i'll be back at some point to post a link to my blog. bye everyone!

Well, it was an honor knowing you, and it has been a pleasure to view your art, originals or otherwise :handshake: I hope you'll continue to improve in your talents :D

lame

Just use it more sporadically, no need to make wide declarations. What if you find something to comment on? What if you're inspired and draw something great and you want to show it off? What if you notice the 20 visits a day you got on DA were more than the 2 you get on your blog and you long for the traffic?

You are setting yourself up for embarrassment. There is no need to make this kind of declaration.

how would i be embarrassed exactly?

There's nothing terribly wrong with feeling lost, so long as that feeling precedes some plan on your part to actually do something about it.

Shit happens from time to time and i guess its up to an individuals feelings about these things.

I've always enjoyed your work and im sorry to see you go, ill try to check your blog from time to time :p

Totally lame. You're acting more and more like those you seem to have liked calling out on DA, these days.

look suitcase, i'm sorry but that's retarded. i didn't SAY i wouldn't be back, i'm not making a goddamn vow, i'm just letting my friends know what's up. you're the only person who seems to be making a fuss over it. i'm acting like the people i've been calling out? why are you trying to be so damn accusatory. all i said was that i don't like updating DA anymore. why would i care about traffic, either? plus, it's too much of a pain in the ass to keep having to submit things separately constantly.

quit making a big deal about me not wanting to use a certain website
